Elena Marsh is the founding editor of The Pampered Paw. She began her career as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) at a busy small-animal clinic in Portland, Oregon, where she developed a fascination with the link between coat health, skin condition, and overall pet wellbeing.
In 2015 she earned her Certified Master Groomer credential through the National Dog Groomers Association of America (NDGAA) and went on to manage the grooming program at a regional veterinary hospital. She has personally groomed more than 8,000 individual pets across 90+ breeds.
Elena founded The Pampered Paw in 2019 to give pet owners independent, evidence-based reviews of grooming products — written by someone who has actually used them on real animals, not just unboxed them on camera. Every product we recommend is hands-on tested for at least 30 days before publication.
Most slicker brushes are designed for short coats and barely penetrate a double coat. After 90 days of hands-on testing on six double-coated breeds, these are the brushes that actually work.
Oatmeal shampoo soothes; medicated shampoo treats. Using the wrong one isn't just wasteful — for itchy or infected skin, it can make the problem worse.
